Meghalaya notified its Rent a Motor Cab Operational Rules, 2025 to regulate rental operators and their licensing within the state. The notification is not a blanket ban on tourists entering Meghalaya in a properly authorised rental car. Equally, hiring in Guwahati does not automatically exempt a vehicle from transport rules.
Before collecting your car, confirm that your planned Meghalaya route is approved under your rental agreement and that the vehicle carries the registration, insurance and other documentation required for its lawful use. Local conditions and access controls can change.

A general Arunachal-style Inner Line Permit is not normally required for Indian tourists visiting standard Meghalaya tourist destinations. Follow any current local access restrictions or site-specific requirements.
Indian visitors generally need an Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit, available through the official eILP portal. Foreign nationals have different protected-area permit requirements. Some border locations, including Bumla, need additional permission.
A 4×4 vehicle is not universally mandatory for the main Guwahati–Dirang–Tawang route. A suitable SUV with good ground clearance is recommended; snow, ice, landslides and roadwork can affect access. Confirm current road conditions before departure.
Our standard minimum booking is 3 days. Drivers must be at least 23 years old, hold a valid driving licence for at least 6 months and complete the required ID verification at delivery.
RIPP is an optional rental damage protection add-on: ₹1,999 for hatchbacks and ₹2,999 for SUVs per booking. Eligible accidental damage up to ₹50,000 has ₹0 customer repair liability. Eligible damage above ₹50,000 can be settled at ₹19,999 per incident, subject to the RIPP terms. Towing is free for the first 10 km per eligible incident, then ₹55/km.
